I don’t know why I’ve never heard this before, but I came across this quote by G.K. Chesterton today. I haven’t been able to track down the occasion or book yet, but it’s worth keeping for reference:
“If men will not be governed by the Ten Commandments, they shall be governed by the ten thousand commandments.”
A glance at any state law code in the U.S., not the mention the laws of the federal government, would certainly back this up. But it’s also true that a general look at culture would back it up as well. There are so many unwritten laws in this culture that it would probably exceed 10,000.
It happens in a lot of houses too. How many parents are proof of this?
