The Summer of Biographies

I have a tradition of reading Christian biographies during the summer. Last summer was probably the most productive one I’ve ever had. I decided to take a reading tour of the Great Awakening. So I read biographies of Edwards, Wesley, and Whitefield. I still had some time left after that so I read a biography of C.H. Spurgeon. I wish I had been blogging at the time so I could have recorded my thoughts at the time, but, alas, I wasn’t.

As a side note, though I’m not a huge fan of John Wesley, Stephen Tomkins’ biography of him is probably the best biography I’ve ever read.

I had no game plan going in to this summer. I decided to simply visit the library and see what I could find. I began by reading the Narnian, by Alan Jacobs. I have already posted brief thoughts on it. Next up is a biography of Francis of Assisi called, God’s Fool. We’ll see how that one goes and then figure out what comes next.

My daughter and I are currently reading 100 Cupboards together and greatly enjoying it. My thoughts on that will come in the next couple of weeks. Other than that I plan to continue posting about Preaching and Preachers, but haven’t found the time yet. That’s what’s up.

Anybody else want to declare this the summer of biographies? It’s more entertaining if you imagine George Constanza saying it.
